Original ItalianTranslation
d'onesto amor perpetua lode e vera.
uscian cantando mille vaghi augelli.
The Shepherd wailed his bagpipes in the wind,
for Filli or [perhaps] for Ne,
while more honoring he who gave to Laura
virtuous love and perpetual and true praise1
When at dawn Tithonus gilds his locks
to greet the new Spring,
out of flowering hedges and shrubs,
a thousand lovely birds come singing.
